Police appeal for information, Victoria Street sexual assault [NEW CCTV FOOTAGE]

Hamilton Police need to identify this man who they believe will be able to help with ongoing inquiries into an alleged rape which occurred in the central city during the early hours of Sunday 20 May between 2.30am-3.30am.

The clearer CCTV footage has become available since detectives appealed through Police Ten 7 and the media for information about the case.

The alleged rape occurred in the Hamilton Museum carpark, after the victim became separated from friends.

At approximately 2.30am she became separated from her friends and was standing in the Marketplace near the Outback Inn when she was approached by a male who convinced her to go for a walk with him.

The male led the victim through the alleyway, along Victoria St and into the back of the museum carpark. It was here that the male has propositioned the victim for sex.

After the victim made it clear she did not want to have sexual relations with the male he pushed her down to the ground, held her down and raped her.

The male is described as being of Indian decent, approximately 172cm tall, skinny build and clean shaven with short black hair.
